Minor Injuries

The Minor Injuries Unit is staffed by experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioners who can assess and treat a wide range of minor injuries, including broken limbs, simple wounds, bites and foreign bodies in the nose or ear.

The Minor Injuries unit is staffed be emergency nurse pratitioners who can see and assess a wide range of minor injuries.

Minor injuries units cannot treat:

  • chest pain
  • breathing difficulties
  • major injuries
  • problems usually dealt with by a GP
  • stomach pains
  • gynaecological problems
  • pregnancy problems
  • allergic reactions
  • overdoses
  • alcohol related problems
  • mental health problems
  • conditions likely to require hospital admission

Admission:

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners who can treat a wide range of minor injuries:

  • sprains and strains
  • broken bones
  • wound infections
  • minor burns and scalds
  • minor head injuries
  • insect and animal bites
  • minor eye injuries
  • injuries to the back, shoulder and chest

There is an x-ray service available during the MIU opening times. Patients can self present to the unit.

Hours:

0800-2000 Monday to Friday

1000-1800 Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays ( with the exception of Christmas day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day)

The last patient will be registered 30 minutes prior to closing time.

Staff:

Monday to Friday 8.00 am - 8.00 pm
Weekends and bank holidays 10.00 am - 6.00 pm
