Macmillan Advice Service

Manchester Advice, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Trust have formed a partnership to provide an innovative new advice service to people living with or affected by cancer who receive services from the Trust.

The Macmillan Advice Service offers a free, cofidential advice service on a range of social welfare issues for the patient, their family members or carers.

What we do
  • Welfare Benefits / Tax Credits
    Help completing claim forms such as Disability Living Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Carers Allowance, Council Tax/Housing Benefit claims, Benefit checking/income maximisation, help accessing Macmillan or other charitable grants and assistance with benefit reviews/appeals/overpayments.
  • Debts issues

    Including negotiating with creditors and   

    dealing with rent arrears

  • Housing

          Such as advice on the rights of private

        tenants and owner-occupiers, council

        housing and rehousing options.    

The service can also provide advice on accessing other Manchester City Council services, for example, referrals to the Contact Centre for Equipment and Adaptations or community Care Assessments and can signpost to other voluntary / support organisations as appropriate.

Where are we

There are two full time Macmillan Advice Workers for the Trust.

We are situated in the Manchester Royal Infirmary, Ground Floor, Purple Zone, which is near the main outpatients department. 

Advice can be provided by telephone or by appointment (either at our office or on the wards).  Interpreters and signers can be arranged with prior notice.

Referrals to the service can be made by Health or Social Care professionals or by the patient, their family members or carers themselves.  Please see our contact details below.
