The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre aims to ensure that information about any aspect of cancer is available to anyone who requires it, including patients, carers, professionals and the general public. Information will be provided in a sensitive and supportive way, to complement information already given to patients and carers by professionals involved in their care.

The Centre provides a confidential, friendly, supportive, informal and non-clinical environment. The Centre is manned by experienced staff. There is a Cancer Support Nurse who is based in the centre and is supported by specialist Nurses and trained volunteers, many of whom have personal experience of cancer.

The Centre Provides:

  • Information about cancer in the form of books and leaflets, and access to the internet.
  • Audio tapes and videos to be used in the Centre or available for loan.
  • Information about support available to people with cancer or their relatives and carers.
  • A quiet room for private conversations.A listening ear for people who just want to talk, either in person or by phone.
  • A telephone helpline and e-mail facility for people who want information but are unable to get to the Centre.
  • An internet discussion site.
