Referral Guidelines

TheNational Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) produced guidelines in 2005 to help ensure that the patient is seen quickly if the doctor thinks he or she may have cancer.

Information about the guidelines can be seen by clicking here

Information produced for the public about the guidelines can be seen by clicking here

This gives you information about the guidelines as well as information about particular types of cancer. It includes things to look out for and tests that may be carried out if your doctor thinks you might have a cancer.

This might help you understand how a doctor decides whether to refer you for investigations to see if you have a cancer.
