Development and Progression
The Sky's The Limit
Training and Development for Nursing
If we offer you a role with us, it's because we believe you're
the best person for the job. But we're also looking for people who
want to improve and develop new skills. As we continue to grow and
develop, there will be no shortage of exciting career opportunities
- so we want you to grow and develop with us. Our commitment to
lifelong learning led to Investors In People status in 2008. So
what does that mean for you?
Encouragement and Support
Whichever team you join, you're bound to find a friendly and
supportive environment - the best climate for you to develop new
skills and expertise. Our Organisational Development and Training
Team will advise you on the best training options to suit your
needs, and facilitate access to both in-house and external
courses.
You'll benefit from the close links we enjoy with a range of
educational partners, including Oldham College, Manchester
Metropolitan University and IT PC, a recognised IT training
organisation. You'll also have access to the resources of our own
well-stocked library and interactive intranet, which includes a
course calendar and staff discussion forums.
Strong Foundations
When you join us, you'll have a full induction, which explains
everything you need to know about processes, procedures and your
working environment. This will be updated annually.
As excellent customer service is important in any role, every
member of staff will undertake some Quality training, with some
going as far as NVQ level. You'll also undertake a Skills For Life
assessment, which focuses on broader skills that aren't just
job-specific and can lead to further valuable training.
If in your role you need to be IT literate we offer a wide range
of in-house IT qualifications, from beginners to advanced
levels.
Tailored Personal Development
Everyone's training and development needs are different. We'll
devise a unique Personal Development Plan to make sure you're
offered the opportunities that best suit you. As you develop, so
will your plan. Regular appraisals and one-to-one sessions with
your manager will allow you to talk about your needs and ambitions,
and help us to know you're happy.
NVQs
You might need to gain an NVQ qualification in order to perform
at your best in your role. Or you may just want to add one to your
CV. Our Education Centre is an accredited NVQ centre and is
continually changing and developing programmes to meet service and
staff needs.
Nursing and Midwifery Courses
The University's Assistant Practitioner Programme is a 2-year
course leading to a foundation degree in Healthcare. It's a
work-based course, and we'll offer you day release for studying.
This course is very popular with Clinical Support Workers looking
to advance their careers.
Student Nurses
You could receive support to complete a degree, or even a
Master's.
Newly Qualified
You'll be supported through a preceptorship transition period
over 6 to 12 months. This will be tailored to your clinical area,
and you'll also be trained in practical skills.
Qualified Staff
Your manager will agree professional development courses for you
to undertake through the University of Manchester. You'll be able
to choose from a wide portfolio of courses.
Band 5
At Band 5, you will take part in the Preparation For Mentorship
programme. If you're a Nurse, this will enable you to act as an
Assessor for students.
Band 7
When you reach Band 7, you'll be eligible for the Advanced
Practitioner programme for Specialist Practitioners. Gaining a
Master's degree, you'll be able to undertake more progressive
independent work.
