Development and Progression

The Sky's The Limit

Training and Development for Scientific and Technical roles

If we offer you a role with us, it's because we believe you're the best person for the job. But we're also looking for people who want to improve and develop new skills. As we continue to grow and develop, there will be no shortage of exciting career opportunities - so we want you to grow and develop with us. Our commitment to lifelong learning led to Investors In People status in 2008. So what does that mean for you?

Encouragement and Support

Whichever team you join, you're bound to find a friendly and supportive environment - the best climate for you to develop new skills and expertise. Our Organisational Development and Training Team will advise you on the best training options to suit your needs, and facilitate access to both in-house and external courses.

You'll benefit from the close links we enjoy with a range of educational partners, including Oldham College, Manchester Metropolitan University and IT PC, a recognised IT training organisation. You'll also have access to the resources of our own well-stocked library and interactive intranet, which includes a course calendar and staff discussion forums.

Strong Foundations

When you join us, you'll have a full induction, which explains everything you need to know about processes, procedures and your working environment. This will be updated annually.

As excellent customer service is important in any role, every member of staff will undertake some Quality training, with some going as far as NVQ level. You'll also undertake a Skills For Life assessment, which focuses on broader skills that aren't just job-specific and can lead to further valuable training.

If your role needs you to be IT literate then we offer a wide range of in-house IT qualifications, from beginners to advanced levels.

Tailored Personal Development

Everyone's training and development needs are different. We'll devise a unique Personal Development Plan to make sure you're offered the opportunities that best suit you. As you develop, so will your plan. Regular appraisals and one-to-one sessions with your manager will allow you to talk about your needs and ambitions, and help us to know you're happy.

Academic and Clinical Excellence

One of the country's largest laboratory developments, the Directorate of Laboratory Medicine is a major centre of academic excellence. It supports the diagnostic and treatment activities of a wide range of specialist clinical units within the Trust. Joining us, you'll enjoy access to some of the most innovative and forward-thinking ideas and practice in the nation.

IBMS Training

The department is a designated IBMS training laboratory with full CPA accreditation. It is actively involved in the development of training plans for both the registration of trainees and the continuing development of qualified Biomedical Scientists.

Support Staff

Healthcare Scientist support staff enjoy excellent opportunities too. We are actively developing new roles and can offer a range of relevant NVQs to enhance opportunities for progression.

Ongoing Opportunities

As a continually changing profession, biomedical science offers a unique variety of exciting career opportunities. From groundbreaking research and specialist lab work to consultant and management roles, you can choose from any number of exciting paths to follow.

Whichever route you choose, we'll support you all the way through an excellent mixture of in-house training and chances to attend regular seminars, conferences and courses.
