Meet the Management Team

James Bruce

Mr Jim Bruce

Clinical Head of Hospital

Mr Bruce is the most senior Doctor within the hospital and responsible for the clinical safety and overall care of all patients within the hospital, as well as being responsible for all medical staff in the hospital.

Mr Bruce's background is as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon.  He graduated from Aberdeen University with an MBCHB degree in 1978 and has been a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since 1984.

He has worked overseas, as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Paediatric Surgery) and Assistant Professor of Surgery at The State University of New York.

In 1992 Mr Bruce joined Manchester Children's Hospitals as a Consultant Surgeon with special interests in Oncology, Reconstructive Urology, Specialist Neonatal Surgery and General Surgery, and in 2009 took on the role of Clinical Head of Hospital.

He is an examiner for the Intercollegiate Speciality Examinations Board and in 2013, following nomination by one of his patients, was presented with the Well Child Doctor of the Year Award by Prince Harry.

Michelle MilnerMrs Michelle Milner

Head of Nursing

Mrs Milner is the most senior Nurse within the hospital and responsible for all the nursing staff working in the hospital, nursing standards and the overall patient experience of our patients and families.

Michelle's clinical background is predominantly in Paediatric Intensive Care, with over 20 years of experience in the field working at a local level in both Guys & St Thomas and Leeds Teaching Hospitals. She also represented the Paediatric Intensive Care Society regionally and nationally, and was instrumental in winning a £3.5million bid to develop a Yorkshire and Humber integrated Neonatal and PCC Transport Service.

Michelle relocated in 2010 from Yorkshire to Merseyside to undertake the Lead Commissioner role for The Women's Hospital and Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.  With the impending abolition of PCT's she decided to return to operational nursing as one of the five Lead Nurses at Alder Hey, joining Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as Head of Nursing in February 2014.


Sue Lunt

Mrs Sue Lunt

Hospital Director

Mrs Lunt became Hospital Director of Royal Manchester Children's Hospital in August 2014 achieving, in her words, 'her dream job'!

Sue is the most senior Manager within the hospital and responsible for the overall management and performance of the hospital.

She qualified as a Human Resource professional in 1988 and practised within the Human Resource field for 12 years culminating in her achieving the role of Associate Director of Human Resources within CMFT.  Sue then moved into more general management and has managed clinical services across South Manchester and Pennine Acute Trust for a period of 10 years before returning to CMFT in 2010.

Sue has a wide range of experience in managing clinical services and working with partners in community, voluntary sectors and national groups in developing patient focussed clinical services.
