Ambulatory paediatrics and the interface with paediatric emergency services .Allergy and atopic eczema.
I trained at St Andrew’s University for 4 years (1971 – 1975), taking an extra year to complete a research BSc degree in anatomy. I then completed my preclinical training at Manchester University by 1978.
I completed a postgraduate MD research degree by 1993 and this was a study of bacterial colonisation and atopic eczema. There have been publications from this work.
I am the Clinical Workforce Lead for the Greater Manchester Children Young People and Families Network which is responsible for the redesign of children’s and maternity services , and implementation of this work is currently underway. This has led to national recognition e.g. at the RCPCH and in the DH, particularly in its innovatory solutions to align workforce planning with service activity, and for the European Working Time Directive.
I am a member of the RCPCH Paediatricians in Medical Management Committee, and I also advise the RCPCH on clinical guidelines.
I was an Associate Postgraduate Dean 1997 – 2004 for the NW Deanery, with responsibility for flexible training and I maintain a keen interest in teaching and training.
I am a member of the Internationally based Advanced Life Support Group Working Party which advises on paediatric emergency management
