Service Description:

Burns Care Services provides treatment for children and young people with thermal injuries.

This includes medical and nursing care for seriously injured children needing ventilation support outside of a paediatric intensive care unit.

When it opened in 1953, the unit was the first of its kind in the UK. Today it is the largest specialist burns unit in the country.

More than 450 children up to the age of 16 years are treated as inpatients each year.
