Service description

Galaxy House is a 12 bedded in-patient unit that provides mental health care for children up to the age of 13 years and also specialising in pervasive refusal syndrome and eating disorder

Hospital School

Royal Manchester Children's Hospital has its very own 'outstanding' school.  Led by Headteacher Sandra Hibbert, the school was judged to be good with outstanding features in is most recent OFSTED report.

RMCH's School is based on the third floor opposite the Department of Therapeutic and Specialised Play. It comes under the umbrella of Manchester Hospital Schools and Home Teaching Service which also includes Galaxy House in the Harrington Building, the Leo Kelly Centre on Dickenson Road in Longsight and on the Starlight ward in Wythenshawe Hospital. There are 40 members of staff, including teachers, teaching assistants and administrators, who work throughout all four sites, as well as in pupils' own  homes.

There are three classrooms in Galaxy House and students again follow the National Curriculum from 9.30am to 3.15pm each day.
