Mr R Maximillian Cervellione

Consultant Paediatric Urologist



Special Interests:

Bladder/cloacal exstrophy and epispadias, paediatric and adolescent varicocele, hypospadias, undescended testes, urinary incontinence and enuresis.


A 1999 graduate of the University of Milan (Italy), Mr Cervellione trained in paediatric surgery at the University of Verona (Italy) before joining Manchester as a fellow in paediatric surgery and urology. In 2007 he was appointed as a Consultant Paediatric Urologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. In 2009 Mr Cervellione attained a 12-month sabbatical from his NHS consultant post which allowed him to obtain the Paediatric Urology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (USA) training for 12 months alongside Professor John P Gearhart. Mr Cervellione is a full time paediatric urologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. He leads the Manchester Exstrophy Unit which represents one of the busiest exstrophy centres in Europe. He is an internationally recognised expert in the reconstruction of the lower urinary tract for exstrophy and for genital reconstruction for epispadias and hypospadias. Mr Cervellione holds an honorary contract as Senior Lecturer with the University of Manchester. His research interests are the bladder exstrophy complex and the paediatric/adolescent varicocele. He has published over 50 articles in the main paediatric surgical/urological journals and has presented his work in Europe, USA, Africa and Asia. Mr Cervellione is the lead for Postgraduate Medical Education at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
