Children's Continence Service

The Children's Continence service team consists of trained nurses and a nursery nurse who are all experienced in children's continence issues. We are based at Charlestown health centre and can be contacted by Telephone on 741 2030 or Fax 741 2029. We work Mon - Fri 8.30am - 4.30pm, not bank holidays. We hold clinics at various health centres in the city and also see some children in school or at home depending on their needs.

We provide evidence based continence assessments to children from age 1 year up to their 19th birthday with continence problems, identifying the most appropriate care pathway for the child, implementing and evaluating the care.

We see children who have problems with:

  • Daytime wetting
  • Night time wetting
  • Children not toilet trained for their bowels due to behavioural issues
  • Children not toilet trained due to a physical or learning disability
  • Children who aren't able to become toilet trained and who need continence products
  • Chronic constipation

Children can refer themselves, or be referred by their parent or a health care professional with the child or parents' consent. The child should have a Manchester G.P. Referrals from health care professionals to be made via the CCS1 Children and Young People's Service referral form, emailed to cmm-tr.ManchesterCCNT@nhs.net

Referrals are triaged each morning and afternoon.
