High Risk Specimens

It is essential for the Health and Safety of all staff that patients are identified as being in the category of high risk, Reference to HIV, AIDS, TB, Hepatitis, Drug Abuse, Immunocompromise, Immunosuppression, CJD and specimens from Genito-Urinary Medicine would be included in this category.

The department of Histopathology operates a policy that specimens from a known ‘High Risk’ source will NOT have cryostat sections cut or processed without 48 hours fixation.
