Clinical Nurse Specialists

A team of specialist nurses provide support to people with HIV infection, their partners, family and friends, and provide appropriate information and advice to newly diagnosed HIV positive patients, in order to promote their independence within the community. Together with the Pharmacy Department, they provide specialised advice about combination antiretroviral therapies and will monitor and support individuals starting or changing combination therapy.

Bloods Tests and results

Patients can have their bloods done 2 weeks before their appointments but are advised to check in at reception and a nurse will order blood test forms. Please note that nurses are only able to perform routine tests unless instructions left by the doctor. If patients choose to have their bloods taken on the day of their appointment they may get the results via our HIV nursing team.

HIV drug interaction

In HIV therapy today, patients take more than one antiretroviral medication at a time and possibly other drugs to treat co-existing conditions. Some drug combinations can affect the patient’s safety and the effectiveness of treatment. For this reason some drug combination should not be given at all, while other drugs may be used together with caution, possibly requiring adjustments or time of administration.

You can go to the HIV Drug Interaction website for information.
