Applying for Study Leave

Applying for Study Leave

Sometimes rotas, leave and study leave can be a source of conflict and distress for many trainees and consultants; at the Central Manchester Foundation Trust we are committed to making requests for time away as simple as possible.

It is essential that you inform your clinical teams as early as possible regarding your leave and course dates. If you do not do this then it can compromise the relationship with your consultant supervisor, your colleagues and others on your team.

As a Foundation Year 2 Trainee you are entitled to 10 days per year of study time. It is your responsibility to make sure your swap your on-call commitments and make sure there is adequate clinical cover for your team. The rules and regulations around F2 study leave have recently changed, please contact Sharon Gibbs (Sharon.gibbs@cmft.nhs.uk) for further details.

Foundation Trainees should contact sharon.gibbs@cmft.nhs.uk for details of how to apply.

As a Specialty Trainee, your study leave is handled centrally by Health Education North West: https://www.nwpgmd.nhs.uk/study-leave. Liaise with the regional organiser when applying. The same principles apply around giving adequate notice and gaining the prerequisite permissions
