How to Join Membership of our NHS Foundation Trust

We are committed to establishing a truly representative membership and welcome members from all all backgrounds and protected characteristics including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation (this is not exclusive of other diverse backgrounds).

Plans are being progressed to create a new, city-wide hospital Trust which will provide much better, safer, more consistent hospital care that's fit for the future for people living in the City of Manchester, Trafford, and beyond.  As part of these plans Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) will join together to create a new Foundation Trust (in October 2017) called Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).  Then, the plan is for North Manchester General Hospital (which is currently part of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) to join the new organisation around 12-18 months later.  For more information about this programme of work, visit our 'About the Manchester Single Hospital Service Plan' webpage.

If you, your family, friends or colleagues are interested in becoming a member, please contact the FT Membership Office on (0161) 276 8661 for an application form, or join via our online application form.  Your membership will be automatically transferred to the new organisation (MFT) on 1st October 2017, unless you choose to opt-out by contacting the Foundation Trust Membership Office (details above).

Changes to Your Membership Details or Cancelling Your Membership

Public Members

As part of the membership application process, the Department of Health asks NHS Foundation Trusts to capture information in relation to ethnicity, language and disability status so that we can be sure that we are representing all sections of our communities.  We therefore ask membership applicants to disclose this information during the application process with all information collected being confidential, in keeping with Data Protection Rules and is not released to third parties.  If the information that you supplied as part of your initial membership application process has changed or changes in the future, please contact the Foundation Trust Membership Office (details above).

If you are an existing public member and would like to cancel your membership, please contact the Foundation Trust Membership Office (details above).

Staff Members

We automatically enrol our staff as members upon joining the Trust as we are confident that you will want to play an active role in developing better quality services for both patients and staff.  Staff can however opt out upon request to the Foundation Trust Membership Office (details above).

Membership information is stored separately to your Electronic Staff Record (ESR) and is treated with the strictest of confidence, in keeping with Data Protection rules and is not released to third parties. If any of your details change, please contact the Foundation Trust Membership Office (as well as notifying your Line Manager to update ESR).

Help Us to Reduce our Carbon Footprint

CMFT Sustainability Logo

Our Trust has a Sustainable Development Management Plan which contains an action plan to reduce our carbon footprint and save valuable, natural resources.  One of our sustainability commitments is to reduce the number of documents that we print, and we hope that members will help us to achieve this.

If you are happy to receive future membership information by email, please contact the Foundation Trust Membership Office (details above) and provide us with your email address.   With your help we can put sustainability at the heart of everything that we do.

If you would like more information about Sustainability at our NHS Foundation Trust, please contact Claire Igoe, Sustainability & Energy Manager - claire.igoe@cmft.nhs.uk.
