What's New

About the Manchester Single Hospital Service Plans

We are creating a new, city-wide hospital Trust which will provide much better, safer, more consistent hospital care that's fit for the future for people living in the City of Manchester, Trafford, and beyond.

We need to change the way we deliver care to address a number of health inequalities in our region. For example:

  • Two people with the same condition, living within miles of each other, can have a different chance of survival depending on when and where they use hospital services.
  • Appointment waiting times vary dramatically depending on which hospital a patient attends and what they are being treated for.

Creating a Single Hospital Service (SHS) will allow us to build an organisation that is fit and sustainable for the future in light of rising demand on services, staff shortages and significant money pressures.

It will also bring opportunities for us to grow our research, education and investment into our region, and attract highly skilled staff. All of this will not only benefit people living in the City of Manchester and Trafford, it will benefit patients from across Greater Manchester who use our hospitals.  Please visit our 'About the Manchester Single Hospital Service Plans' for further details.

Have your say - join our NHS Foundation Trust

become a member

Have you thought about becoming a member of our Foundation Trust?  Anyone aged 11 years or over can become a member and it's free to join.  As a Member of our NHS Foundation Trust, you would have a very real opportunity, through your elected representatives (Governors), to shape our future and ensure services are developed that best meet your and your family's needs.

We are committed to establishing a truly representative membership and welcome members from all backgrounds and protected characteristics including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation (this is not exclusive of other diverse backgrounds)

Being a member of an NHS Foundation Trust means that you can have a real say, through your elected representatives (Governors), in shaping future services and strategic planning.

You decide how involved you want to be - you may simply want to receive a newsletter about the Trust's activities or you may want to stand for election to the Council of Governors, which works with the Board of Directors.

How to Join

If you, your family, friends or colleagues are interested in becoming a member, please contact the Foundation Trust Membership Office for an application form, join via our online application form or look out for our Become a Member display stand located near Trust Headquarters, Cobbett House, Manchester Royal Infirmary.

As part of the above 'About the Manchester Single Hospital Service Plans', your membership will be automatically transferred to the new organisation (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) on 1st October 2017, unless you choose to opt-out by contacting the Foundation Trust Membership Office.
