Anticoagulant service

The Anticoagulant Clinic is in the Out-Patient Department of Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Opening hours

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

8.30am to 11.30am


1.00pm to 4.00pm

Anticoagulant co-ordinators are available Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 5.00pm on 0161 276 4077. Voicemail operates after 5.00pm and when the office is unattended.

Anticoagulant Nurse Specialists: Bleep 4591 or 4077.

Patients with problems outside normal hours are advised to contact their local accident and emergency department.

GP referrals

Doctors who want a patient's anticoagulant therapy to be monitored at MFT must contact the clinic beforehand. GP referrals can be faxed to 0161 276 5303.

Referrals must include the following:

  • Patient name, address and contact number
  • Reason for anticoagulation
  • Duration of anticoagulation
  • Target INR
  • A record of all drugs the patient is taking. You should also advise the clinic of any changes to drugs or drug dosages as soon as possible.
