The Transfusion laboratory at CMFT is located within the purpose-built Haematology Laboratory on the ground floor of the Clinical Sciences (2) building at. The laboratory offers a comprehensive service to all of the Hospital patients and departments within CMFT.
The Transfusion laboratory is part of the Department of Haematology and is in the Clinical and Scientific Services division of the Trust (CSS).
In 2009 the central site Transfusion laboratory and the paediatric Transfusion laboratory from RMCH were co-located in CSB2. The service is now completely harmonised and accredited with the Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA) and the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
The Hospital Transfusion Team (HTT) includes both Clinical and Scientific staff with full Information Technology and Management team support to provide a liaison forum between clinical users and groups/specialties and the Laboratory service providers. The remit of the HTT is the development of patient centered safe and efficient services. To build on present service provision and ensure continued efficient, high quality standards are maintained in all aspects of Transfusion Medicine.
