The Digital Morphology (DM) Development Team formed in 1998 to look
at the possibility of using digital images for training, education
and quality assessment for blood cell morphology. The DM Team
consists of experienced Biomedical and Medical leads from both
Laboratory and Clinical Haematology at Central Manchester who have
a keen interest in morphology. The team also has included academic
input from colleagues at Manchester Metropolitan University
(MMU).
In association with the National External Quality Assessment Scheme of General Haematology (UK NEQAS (H)) we developed a series of pilot DM exercises. These led to the introduction of a national scheme for continuing professional development (CPD) in Digital Morphology aimed at laboratory based professionals launched by UK NEQAS (H) in April 2008. This scheme is expected to expand internationally in 2011.
