Electron Microscopy repertoire

The unit holds primary expertise in renal ultrastructural pathology.

The Adult Histopathology Specialist Renal Pathologists are located within the EM Unit and EM staff work closely with them.

Approximately 90% of the samples handled are renal. The remaining workload comprises the following specimen types:

  • Muscle samples
  • Duodenal samples for microvillous inclusion disease & tufting enteropathy
  • Ophthalmic samples
  • Skin samples for neuronal-ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL)
