IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase

Acts as a screening test for coeliac disease/dermatitis herpetiformis.

Normal reference range: 0-4.9 kU/L

Volume and sample type: 7ml clotted blood

Method: FEIA (Fluoroenzyme Immunoassay)

Turnaround time (calendar days from sample receipt to authorised result): Median - 1, 95th percentile - 4

Clinical information

Indications for the test: Suspected gluten sensitivity. This test is specific for coeliac disease, but a jejunal biopsy is recommended for confirmation.

Factors affecting the test:

  • Becomes negative on gluten free diet.
  • False Negative in IgA deficiency - our test platform will detect a low IgA level (see IgG Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase which is substituted in IgA deficiency)
