Calcium and PTH reference range change

Following clinical queries regarding the upper limit of the calcium reference range we have made the decision to move to the UK Pathology Harmony reference range for adults, effective from 2nd June 2014.

Reference range for patients >18 years:

Calcium 2.20-2.60 mmol/l

In addition a minor amendment to the PTH reference range has been proposed to harmonise between Central and Trafford sites.

Reference range for PTH: 15-65 pg/ml

A review of the calcium correction calculation to adjust for albumin concentration has also been undertaken and a minor adjustment has been made. Details of this adjustment are available if required.
