NEW Specimen Acceptance Policy Live April 1st

The Directorate of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) has updated the Specimen Acceptance Policy, which is available HERE.

This policy is a key component of the Trust and Directorate Clinical Risk Management Strategy and in ensuring compliance with Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) Ltd (CPA) standards and guidelines from professional bodies.

Over the past few months we have been liaising with our users to develop this policy and to ensure the Directorate meets best practice to ensure Patient Safety and the effective reporting of Laboratory Medicine results and reports. We now need to implement the policy in full.

Therefore, as from 1st April 2012, all inadequately labelled specimens will be rejected.  I would be grateful if you could ensure that your staff are all aware of the requirements of the policy and the implications of inadequate labelling.
