The Helicobacter pylori antibody testing service provided by the Manchester HPA Laboratory/MRI Clinical Virology Laboratory has ceased.

This is because of the limitations of antibody testing, including the fact that it does not differentiate active from past infection and is less sensitive and less specific than urea breath testing and stool helicobacter antigen testing.  As you will know, helicobacter antigen testing is now available from a number of Microbiology Laboratories in the North West, including the Microbiology Laboratory at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
