The Adult Mortuary is a purpose-built facility, located on the ground floor of the Clinical Sciences Building. We are composed of a small, highly dedicated team who take great pride in offering a high-quality mortuary service, and effective support to bereaved relatives alongside the Bereavement Centre team.

We provide vital services to both CMFT and Her Majesty's Coroner; the Mortuary receives approximately 3,000 patients per year from both the Hospital and the local community. The services we offer include post-mortem examinations, viewing facilities and formal identifications, and storage of the deceased. All of our services are carried out in accordance with the appropriate HTA guidelines, and are performed with care and dignity in mind at all times.

As a major teaching centre for the University of Manchester, we provide a variety of teaching sessions to both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate histopathology trainees. In addition to these sessions, we offer mortuary visits to hospital staff involved in the care of the deceased.
