BetFred Ball Helps Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

charity ballThe inaugural BetFred Foundation ball was recently held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester in support of Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

The event, hosted by Vernon Kay, saw 400 guests enjoying a fabulous make believe themed evening which raised £189,000 on the night.

Money raised will go towards providing the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit with a Miltenyi Prodigy Machine that can process stem cells to ensure they are suitable for transplant.  This will mean that children who need to a stem cell donation from their parents will no longer need to be separated from their family when they need them most, as their parents can now donate their cells at the MRI rather than travelling to London.

The Prodigy machine is also able to manipulate cells in different ways including gene therapy techniques which will also help the Unit in its future gene therapy protocols.
