The new four-storey development on Railway Street in the town centre will replace the current Altrincham Hospital which dates back to the Victorian era.  It is regarded as a major step in the town's regeneration.  The town centre location will be very convenient for patients who use public transport and the buildingitself will be much more accessible and user-friendly for all visitors, including those with mobility problems.

A wide range of high quality general and specialist outpatient and diagnostic services including the rapid treatment of minor injuries will be provided by clinical experts from Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT), the major teaching and research hospital Trust responsible for running hospital services in Trafford.  Discussions are underway regarding the possibility of providing additional services.

The new purpose-built facility has been designed to be as energy efficient as possible and will feature passive infrared (PIR) lighting which is activated by motion detection sensors, photovoltaic solar panels, and LED lighting.  The 75,000 sq ft hospital is being developed by Citybranch in partnership with Pochin Property on behalf of CMFT.

Work is underway to review the way current Altrincham services are used and identify any action needed in a bid to provide a better experience for patients and visitors at the new hospital.

Peter Mount, Chairman of CMFT, said:  "We are delighted that our plans to create a new state-of-the-art community hospital for Altrincham are coming to fruition.  This development will be a significant boost both to local people and the local economy.  Not only will it provide modern, high quality facilities for our existing services but also an opportunity to expand the range of clinical care that we provide to Trafford residents."

The construction work is on target for completion by the end of the year.  The hospital is expected to open to the public in March 2015.
