NICU nurses’ peaks challenge helps premature babies

nicu nurse2Six nurses from NICU (Belinda Wyatt, Liz Dart, Claire Hughes, Ian Clark, Sam Dixon, Laura Mallinson and Louise Sage) completed the National 3 Peak Challenge in 2014 and raised over £4500 for sensory equipment to help with premature babies development.  The new equipment is now being used on NICU.

The National 3 Peak Challenge involved climbing the 3 largest mountains in the UK in 24 hours - Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowden (Wales). The team completed this gruelling challenge in 23 hours and 40 mins - 20 minutes to spare!!

With the money raised they have bought 40 hand held mirrors - so babies can see themselves and so parents can see their babies whilst having skin to skin (cuddles), 2 oil lamp projectors with 2 projection umbrellas, 2 fibre optic tails and 1 hurricane tube. The nicu nurse1pieces of equipment bought will help the babies with their sensory development and encourage positive stimulation. Thank you to all that donated and supported the team throughout ....they are wondering what challenge to complete next!!
