The official opening of the new hospitals by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh took place today.

Peter Mount, Chairman says: "The Board and staff are incredibly excited that our organisation has been chosen as part of this year's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.  This is an historic occasion for the organisation.

"Our new hospitals are a shining example of the NHS at its very best. Today is most certainly the highlight as my time here as Chairman and I am pleased that so many of our staff had the opportunity to take part in today's event."

Mike Deegan, Chief Executive said: "The official opening of our new hospitals marks a significant milestone in our organisation's history.  Planning and moving into the new hospitals was an enormous challenge and we are incredibly proud of what we have all achieved.  These are truly remarkable buildings providing the latest modern equipment and facilities.

"Today was a celebration of what has been achieved through the hard work and dedication of our staff."

Over 1,000 guests were involved.  Every member of staff had the chance to be chosen as staff were randomly selected by each of our Divisions.

A specially commissioned piece of music by the Royal Northern College of Music 'Diamonds, feathers and saxophones' was played as the Royal party exited the Royal Eye Hospital and Her Majesty was presented with the score in a commemorative book.
