RMCH Big Charity Drive

big charity driveFOUR DAYS, FOUR COUNTRIES, FOR CHARITY!

Get your engines revving and join us for our first ever overseas driving challenge, taking place from the 11th -14th September 2016!

We're looking for 20 adventurous teams to take on the challenge of driving from Manchester to our twin town, Chemnitz in Germany to raise vital funds for our #TimeSaveLives Helipad Appeal.

What do I have to do to take part?

Step 1:  Gather a team of up to four people, you must have a minimum of two drivers over the age of 25

Step 2: Register your team (link below) and pay the £100 registration fee per person

Step 3: Source a car (by the 1 September) that is worth less than £1,000 and decide on a theme for your vehicle and team.

Step 4: Raise a minimum of £1,500 sponsorship per team to support our Helipad Appeal.

Step 5: Assemble at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital on Sunday 11th September before embarking on your adventure.  Participate in the online challenges and compete to be crowned Champions of the Drive!

Step 6: Get the team back together on Thursday 6thOctober at our closing ceremony where the winning team will drive away in an Infiniti car for one month.

How do we get to Chemnitz?

After leaving the children's hospital in Manchester you need to make your way to Dover to catch the ferry across the Channel to France, the route you take to Dover is up to you! Once you arrive in France, it's up to you on the roads to take to get to Chemnitz! We will have suggested rendezvous locations along the route for you meet with your rival teams and relax after a hard day driving.

The Big Charity Drive is not a race, it is an interactive competition that will see you competing in fun online challenges along your journey to earn points!

How will the Champions of the Drive be decided?

On the road, teams will compete in challenges which will be tracked using nominated twitter accounts.  Points will be awarded for the challenges, as well as for creativity with your car theming! There are NO points for arriving first at destinations  but there is an early sign-up bonus for teams registering before 1 July 2016!

Your friends, family, and colleagues will all be able to watch from home on our official Big Charity Drive website.  They can see how you are getting on the leaderboard and check out your location via our map that will track the progress of the teams involved!

How much does it cost to take part?

Registration costs £100 per team member and this includes:

  • Travel insurance for each team member
  • Breakdown cover for your car
  • Return ferry
  • European driver packs for each team
  • Invitation to the closing ceremony

To help our #TimeSavesLives Helipad Appeal each team will be asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £1,500 between them!  The more you raise the better!

It's entirely up to you how you get your car and cover the cost of car insurance, road tax and theming - you could get these donated as gifts in kind or fundraise (up to a maximum of £1,000) to cover these costs!  Why not offer companies the chance to sponsor a panel on your car featuring their logo and branding!Binary Box in Stockport can provide vinyl stickers for your car in any design you like!

Following the event, all cars will be signed over to the Charity to help raise as much as possible for the Helipad Appeal.

What will I have to pay for myself?

During the challenge you will need to pay for:

  • Food and drink on the road
  • Any toll roads
  • Petrol
  • Overnight Accommodation

How do I register?

Teams must be registered together in full by the Team Captain. Registrations fees for all team members will need to be paid by the Team Captain at the time of registration.  The following information about the each team member will also be needed to complete the registration process:

  • Full name (as appears on their passport)
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Home address
  • Telephone Number
  • E-mail
  • Next of Kin details
  • Twitter Handle (if this s to be used as part of the competition)
  • Will they be a nominated driver?
  • If they are a nominated driver they must be aged over 25 and they hold a full UK licence.
  • T-Shirt sizes

Please note that when registering team captains will be asked to confirm that all members of the team have read and agree to the event terms and conditions,  Read them here. Please ensure all team members have read this document.

After registration, all team members will be sent a hard copy version of these terms and will be expected to sign and return a copy in order to take part in the Big Charity Driver. Team members will also be asked to provide copies of their driving licence and passport.
