RMCH celebrates Manchester Children’s Book Festival with Readwell

mcbfBookworms at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) will be treated to a visit from author Matt Brown and illustrator Lizzy Finley as part of the Manchester Children's Book Festival (MCBF) celebrations.

The visit has been organised by ReadWell, who have previously donated a book trolley for patients in the Hospital School and in its classrooms on the wards. Now as part of this year's festival, ReadWell have donated a second trolley to our Department of Therapeutic and Specialised Play, so Compton Valance author Matt along with illustrator Lizzy will be dropping in to celebrate its launch and take part in a book signing.

Hospital School Assistant Headteacher Tracy Gallier said: "The impact for our staff and pupils over the last two years from working with Readwell and MCBF has been phenomenal.  The children get so much from enjoying and sharing high quality books and there is always a buzz in the air on 'book trolley day!'  Having the opportunity to meet the authors is really the icing on the cake; the stories and characters come alive when the children listen to them speak.  For us, that is learning at its best."

MCBF's 2015 theme is time travel, inspired by series Compton Valance, which sees Compton visit different time periods using his magical mouldy sandwich so Matt and Lizzy will be taking part in creative activities such as tongue twisting poems and helping children with their comic book competition entries.
