Still a chance at World Cup football success!

Today one of our surgeons flies out to Brazil with the British Medical Football Team to represent the country in the Medics World Cup.

Mr Bilal Alkhaffaf a Consultant in General and Oesophago-Gastric Surgery at the Manchester Royal Infirmary has been part of the team since 2010.

He says:  "I had heard about the British Medical Football Team after they won the World Medical Cup in South Korea in 2009.  I got in touch and attended the trials in 2010 and have been playing with them ever since.

"We've been to Austria (2010), Manchester (2011), Sweden (2012) and Hungary (2013) where we have either finished second or third overall.  This year is special for us all as the competition is in Brazil.

"We are all excited to play there at the same time as the World Cup and have been working especially hard in terms of fitness and playing together regularly.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for players in all the teams, but we want to make the most of it, particularly as we are our country's only chance of world cup glory this year!"
