Trafford Consultant elected President of the British Society for Haematology
A Trafford General Consultant has been elected president of the
British Society for Haematology, a national organisation which
strives to advance the treatment of patients with blood
Dr Patrick Carrington, Consultant Haematologist at Trafford
General, was elected as president of the society by a vote
involving all UK blood specialists.
The society, a charitable organisation, was established to
advance the practice and study of haematology, bringing together
specialists from across the country to establish treatment
guidelines, improve doctor education and provide funding for
research in haematology.
Dr Carrington has been a consultant haematologist at Trafford
General since 1993 where he has overseen numerous developments in
the provision of care for patients with blood conditions. Most
recently, a new Medical Day Unit opened where patients can receive
specialist chemotherapy, blood transfusions and other treatments in
a modern, up to date facility. He holds clinics at both Trafford
General and Altrincham Hospital.
Dr Carrington said: "I'm extremely honoured to be elected by my
colleagues in the UK to this position. My two main objectives are
to increase the work of the society at a Regional level and
increase collaboration between the society and other National
