Trafford Consultant elected President of the British Society for Haematology

Patrick Carrington

A Trafford General Consultant has been elected president of the British Society for Haematology, a national organisation which strives to advance the treatment of patients with blood diseases.

Dr Patrick Carrington, Consultant Haematologist at Trafford General, was elected as president of the society by a vote involving all UK blood specialists.

The society, a charitable organisation, was established to advance the practice and study of haematology, bringing together specialists from across the country to establish treatment guidelines, improve doctor education and provide funding for research in haematology.

Dr Carrington has been a consultant haematologist at Trafford General since 1993 where he has overseen numerous developments in the provision of care for patients with blood conditions. Most recently, a new Medical Day Unit opened where patients can receive specialist chemotherapy, blood transfusions and other treatments in a modern, up to date facility. He holds clinics at both Trafford General and Altrincham Hospital.

Dr Carrington said: "I'm extremely honoured to be elected by my colleagues in the UK to this position. My two main objectives are to increase the work of the society at a Regional level and increase collaboration between the society and other National groups."
