On track to exceed target for patient recruitment into clinical research studies
Thanks to our patients and staff, we are on track to exceed its
National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) target for patient
recruitment into clinical research studies.
Between April 2013 and November 2013, we recruited 11,401
patients into NIHR portfolio studies. This achievement builds
on our success last year, as the second highest recruiting Trust in
the UK (with 17,064 patients* recruited April 2012-April 2013).
As one of the largest providers of tertiary and specialist
services in the UK, CMFT has a key role to play in identifying new
and better ways to do things, to ensure that our patients continue
to receive cutting-edge care. In-line with our mission, we
use the skills that are inherent within our organisation to improve
people's health through clinical research.
Colin Sibley, Head of Research and Innovation, said: "I'm
delighted at the level of patient involvement in research. As
a Trust we have a diverse portfolio of research covering a wide
range of clinical areas across our eight hospitals. By
getting involved in research our patients are helping us to gain a
better understanding about some of the world's most complex
diseases. Clinical research also plays an important role in
improving people's health through the development of new
diagnostics and medicines."
*Recruited on to NIHR portfolio studies (the total across all
studies was over 20,000).
