Annual Baby Party

Around 700 people will come together this weekend for an annual celebration on Sunday 5th March at the Manchester United ground in Old Trafford. The people attending were all born as a result of assisted conception at the Department of Reproductive Medicine at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. The eldest ‘baby’ attending will be 16 and the youngest will be 7 weeks old. The party has been organised by the department and Dr Brian Lieberman, Director of Reproductive Medicine says: “The IVF and DI (Donor Insemination) Unit continues to thrive and is now in its 24th year. The infertility treatment offered by the Department consists of all forms of assisted conception including IVF and donor insemination”. The unit which opened in 1982 was the first NHS IVF Unit and has assisted in the birth of 2,805 babies through IVF, DI and stimulated Intra-Uterine insemination.
