Media Requests

Photography or filming

Requests regarding photography, filming, or interviews with staff or patients, must be made through our Communications Team - 0161 276 4430 email: comms@cmft.nhs.uk

Patient confidentiality

We place great emphasis on the need for the strictest confidentiality in respect of our patients. We will not divulge any information about a patient unless we are given permission from the individual or their next of kin. Requests for interviewing/photographing patients must be made through the Communications Team.  We will only facilitate contact with patients if they are currently a patient within our hospitals.

Condition checks

Condition checks and information will only be released if you have the full name (correct spelling), and either the date of birth (or age) and/or address of the patient concerned and only if the patient or next of kin consents to information being released. In incidents involving the Police it is likely that any information will only be released by the Police Press Office.

Only a brief indication of the progress of the patient will be given, such as the patient is stable or comfortable or seriously ill.  We will not provide a diagnosis or prognosis or details of injuries. Once the patient is discharged from our care we will not provide any information.

Do not contact the wards directly under any circumstances. During normal working hours please telephone us on 0161 276 8763. Outside these hours please telephone the switchboard on 0161 276 1234 and ask to speak to the on call communications lead. Condition checks out of hours will only be released in emergency situations.

Major incidents

Should a major incident occur, the Trust has a contingency plan that includes arrangements for the media. A press centre will be established and the media will be notified on arrival at the hospital. This will be set up for press conferences. You will be given regular updates on the situation and the opportunity for interviews, if appropriate. Depending on the type of incident, we will decide at the time whether photographs/filming will be permitted and how this will be facilitated.
