Chairman's Bulletin January 2012

Welcome to January's e-bulletin which gives Governors news and information about our Trust and what is going on in the NHS.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year. We had a marvellous end to 2011 when we were told that we had achieved NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) Level 3 following a rigorous two day assessment. We are one of only seven Trusts in the country to have been awarded Level 3 across both general and maternity services.

We were assessed against five standards each containing ten criteria giving a total possible score of 50.  In order to be successful Trusts must achieve a score of at least 40.  We scored 44, with a maximum of 10 out of 10 for 'Learning from Experience'.  Other categories assessed were Governance, Competent and Capable Workforce, Safe Environment and Clinical Care.

We will be re-assessed in two years to ensure that the good practice is maintained and to incorporate new areas such as community services. For further details about the NHSLA standards visit http://www.nhsla.com/RiskManagement/

Following a visit from the Patients Association's Chief Executive Katharine Murphy, we are hosting an exciting conference in partnership with them on Tuesday 7th February 2012 in Education South. Katharine was very impressed and reassured by the work going on in the organisation. The Partners in Care Conference will focus on what patients want from their NHS care and how creating a culture of excellence can help services to get it right.
