Chairman's Bulletin November 2012

Welcome to November's e-bulletin which gives Governors news and information about our Trust and what is going on in the NHS.

I have been fortunate to recently attend the 10th birthday of our Youth Forum in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Teen Zone. Originally known as Teen Talk, the young people involved over the years have undertaken a number of projects and contributed positively to shaping young people's services. The Youth Forum have been involved in a number of significant projects throughout the past 10 years, notably contributing to the design of the new RMCH. Members have also been involved in developing transition policies and the Age Policy. They are heavily involved in consulting with other young patients in the hospital and representing them and their views to senior staff.

As you are aware, the Health & Social Care Act (2012) requires us to revise our Constitution therefore we have utilised Monitor's Model Constitution to incorporate the required changes.  The revised Constitution has been approved by the Board of Directors, Council of Governors and has been ratified at a recent Governors' Membership Working Group Meeting.  We have also received confirmation from our Solicitors that the revised Constitution is compliant with legal requirements.

Members have also been notified of the proposed changes via a newsletter (Foundation Focus Newsflash) with a Special Members' Meeting being scheduled for Wednesday, 5th December 2012 (3.30 pm - 5.00 pm in Meeting Room 1, Nowgen Centre, MRI) at which changes will be presented to members for approval.  Following this, the revised Constitution will be sent to Monitor.

The New Health Deal for Trafford public consultation, which outlined a proposal for creating integrated care services in the borough, as well as a proposed redesign of services at Trafford General Hospital, closed on Wednesday 31st October 2012. All responses made by this deadline have now been forwarded to an independent company for analysis.

Over the coming weeks, the Strategic Programme Board, which oversees the New Health Deal project, will hold a series of meetings to consider the consultation feedback alongside a range of other evidence, before it makes a final recommendation on the proposals. We will keep you updated on any developments. For further information visit /media-centre/latest-news/next-steps-for-the-trafford-new-health-deal-public-consultation.aspx
