Chairman's Bulletin September 2012

Welcome to September's e-bulletin which gives Governors news and information about our Trust and what is going on in the NHS.

Our recent Annual Members Meeting was extremely well attended and provided a forum for members to ask questions. In addition to showcasing our services, experts were also on hand to give advice and information on helping you to prevent or manage four major conditions (heart attack, stroke, cancer and diabetes). Again, we Tweeted throughout the meeting providing an on-going snap shot of the event. One follower responded: "Congrats Manchester Hospitals @CMFTNHS now live streaming their Annual Members Meeting thru Twitter #CMFTAMM. 1 day every hosp will do this." We now have over 1,000 followers on Twitter.  .

The meeting also provided us with an opportunity to officially welcome our new governors. Elections have recently been held for four staff and seven public governors. In relation to our staff governor elections, Mary Marsden has been re-elected to our Nursing and Midwifery constituency as well as new governor Sharon Green.  We also welcome John Vincent Smyth to the Medical and Dental category and Isobel Bridges in the Non-Clinical and Support category.

Following our public governor elections, in the City of Manchester constituency, Keith Paver was successfully re-elected. We also welcome two new governors to our new Trafford constituency, Matthew Finnegan and George Devlin as well as welcoming back Malcolm Chiswick to take up his new office in this constituency. We also welcome new governor Syed Nayyer Abidi MBE and welcome back Ivy Ashworth-Crees both to the Greater Manchester constituency.  In the Rest of England and Wales constituency, Lawrence Cotter has been voted in by public members after recently retiring from the Trust.

In addition to welcoming our newly elected staff and public governors, we also are welcoming three new Nominated Governors, Julie Cheetham for Central Manchester PCT/Clinical Commissioning Board, Karen Barclay for Trafford Borough Council  and George Kissen for Trafford PCT/Clinical Commissioning Group.

Julian Wright will shortly be leaving us both as a valued member of staff and governor and I would like to take this opportunity of thanking him for his commitment and support throughout his term of office.  I would also like to say thank you to Helen Hosker and Brian Donaldson for their contributions during their term of office as Governors.

New Governors will shortly be undertaking Governor Role Induction Training and I look forward to seeing you all at our next Council of Governors' Meeting which takes place on Wednesday, 17th October 2012 at the Nowgen Centre, MRI from 1.30 pm.

If there is anything I can do to assist you in your role as a Governor, please contact me on 0161 276 8661 or at peter.mount@cmft.nhs.uk.
