Primary care optometry, therapeutic contact lenses and diagnostic ultrasonography
Cindy graduated from Aston University with a BSc (Hons)
degree in Ophthalmic Optics in 1985 and received a PhD
from the University of Manchester, Faculty of Medicine in
1991. She has worked in the Hospital Eye Service for most
of her career and is currently Consultant Optometrist and
Head of Optometry Services at Manchester Royal Eye
Hospital. She is also Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the
University Department of Ophthalmology.
Cindy is currently the President of the College of
Optometrists having served as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees, Chairman of the Research Committee and regional
representative for the North West of England. She is also a
College examiner and supervisor of trainee optometrists. She
has also served as a Councillor and Chair of the Hospital
Optometrists Committee of the Association of Optometrists.
She was part of the General Optical Council’s Therapeutics
Working Group and was one of the first optometrists in the
UK to be awarded a Diploma in Therapeutics and gained
independent prescribing status.
Her clinical interests include primary care optometry,
therapeutic contact lenses and diagnostic ultrasonography and
she regular lectures in these areas. Her research interests are
currently in the field of keratoconus and she has supervised
several PhD projects and published in this area.
