Orthoptics

 

 

SERVICE DESCRIPTION:

The Orthoptic Department specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of strabismus or squint (misalignment of the eyes), binocular vision (how the eyes work as a pair) and childhood visual problems.

In addition, the department deals with the assessment and diagnosis of adult strabismus and ocular motility problems, which may be related to general medical conditions.

The orthoptist will treat childhood amblyopia or lazy eye with patches or drops. We will use exercises or prisms to treat double vision.

ACCESSING THIS SERVICE:

Appointments are made through by referral to a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

OPENING HOURS:

Orthoptics operates as an outpatient department and is open between the hours of 08.00am to 4.30pm. There are also some evening and weekend clinics.
