Acute Oncology

The aim of Acute Oncology Service is to support clinical areas within Adult Services for patients who have an acute presentation relating to their diagnosed or undiagnosed cancer.

We advise and manage acutely unwell patients who have been admitted to the hospital with:

  • Problems from a known cancer;
  • Complications from radiotherapy and chemotherapy;
  • A newly diagnosed Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) (where the site of the cancer is unknown)


Working hours are: 09:00 - 17:00 Monday - Thursday and 09:00- 20:00 on Friday, excluding weekends and bank holidays.


The team consists of the following:

  • Consultant Medical Oncologist
  • Acute Oncology Physician
  • Team Leader/Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
  • 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)
  • MDT Co-ordinator
