Dr Leelarathna received his undergraduate education at University of Colombo, Sri Lanka (1993 to 1998). He was trained in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine in London and completed masters at Kings College, London in 2009. Since completion of higher training he joined University of Cambridge and completed doctoral studies in 2014. During this period he worked on several closed-loop (artificial pancreas) studies in patients with type 1 diabetes and patients with critical illness with several publications in leading diabetes journals.
