Adrenal disease, steroid hormones and hormone action, inflammation, and its regulation by the endocrine system, energy metabolism


Qualified from Manchester in 1987. Trained in medicine, and endocrinology in Liverpool and Manchester. Research Fellow at University of California, Los Angeles 1994-1996. Appointed as consultant at MRI from 2000. Promoted to personal chair in medicine and endocrinology 2005, at University of Manchester. Currently, associate Dean for Research in Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences, Deputy Chair MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship panel, and General Secretary of the Society for Endocrinology.


Internationally recognised leader in steroid hormone action, inflammation, and metabolism research.   Recipient of 2014 Clinical Endocrinology Trust Lectureship.  Published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers.  H factor of 37.  Raised more than £8M in research funding.
