Dr Byrd trained at Manchester and qualified in 1992. She trained In Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the North West Region, gaining MRCOG in 1997 and gained her diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound scanning in 1999 and secured a consultant post at Saint Mary’s in 2005. Following appointment she set up and developed a Recurrent Miscarriage Service. She also supported the Preterm Labour service (with cervical scan assessment). Inspired to the vocation by her own experiences as a patient, she feels able to empathise with women/families. In so doing she strives to offer a high quality, individualised care. She is the Obstetric Lead for the Joint Obstetric Haematology Service (to include management of bleeding disorders, venous thrombosis and haemoglobinopathies (e.g. sickle cell) and was instrumental in developing a late amniocentesis service for women with Haemophilia. She is a member of the British Fetal and Maternal Medicine Society and a frequent reviewer for their journal. Dr Byrd has contributed to several books, published clinical papers and is author of an Obstetrics/Haematology e-learning package for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). She is Associate College Tutor and Obstetric lead for in house Multi-disciplinary Mandatory Training and developed the Education Board at Saint Mary’s to strengthen the quality and co-ordination of in house education. I am a MOET instructor and course director, a faculty member of Baby Lifeline UK and ATSM preceptor for Advanced Labour Ward skills.
