Gynaecological Oncology; Pre-operative assessment

Mrs Leishman trained at Manchester University and qualified as a nurse in 1997.  She has worked in the Gynaecology Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital ever since.

She started her first role as a nurse practitioner in 2003 specialising in pre-operative assessment of complex patients (gynaecological oncology).  She commenced an MSc in Advanced Practice in 2005 and, after a break in the middle, completed in June 2011.

Mrs Leishman leads on gynaecological oncology pre-operative/anaesthetic assessment, having developed the service to a very high standard over the years.  She also works as part of the medical team on the wards planning the care of in-patients.  This includes all gynaecological oncology surgical patients, but also involves managing patients with advanced cancer.

She is a key member of the cancer waits committee and forms part of the team responsible for ensuring that patients are treated within the targets set by the government.

She is also a practicing independent non-medical prescriber.
