All patients undergoing surgery are required to undergo a
pre-operative assessment. This is to ensure that we are
appropriately planned for your procedure and that you are fit for
You will be seen by one of our pre-op nurses in a pre-operative
assessment clinic. You may also be required to attend the
ward the day prior to your surgery for additional blood tests.
It is important that you attend these appointments, so that
we can plan effectively for your surgery and avoid any unnecessary
delays on the day of your surgery.
We recognise that having an operation can be a stressful
experience for any patient. We aim to make your theatre experience
as stress-free as we can. We will talk you through each step
of the process and ensure you are involved. You can ask us any
questions. Our aim is to ensure that you are as comfortable
as possible following surgery and that all appropriate pain relief
is offered as is considered safe to do so.
