FMU Paediatric Surgery Clinic

FMU, Ultrasound Department, Saint Mary's Hospital, Manchester.


Conditions dealt with:

All fetal anomalies that would require surgical repair after delivery such as gastroschisis, exomphalos, congenital diaphragmatic hernia etc.


What is offered to patients?

Discussion of the fetal anomaly, type of surgery required and how old baby would be when this is done. The possible risks of the surgical procedure, short and long-term outcome, duration of stay in hospital and follow-up after discharge are discussed.


When is the clinic held?

The clinic is monthly.


How can I access this service?

Patients are referred to this clinic by an FMU consultant and are usually seen at about 28 weeks gestation.
