If you live in North, Central or South Manchester, North or South Trafford, or postcodes M50, M5, M6, M30, M44(6) only, M3 and M7 of Salford, a Manchester Neonatal Outreach Midwife will visit you the day after your baby's discharge home whether you are discharged from NICU or the post natal ward if your baby has been on NICU.

The MNORT is an extension of the service offered by the NICU and the team has a large role to play in the planning of discharge home of the babies on NICU.   They also have a large part to play in the education of parents prior to their discharge home.

Members of the MNORT attend the weekly multi-disciplinary meetings on the NICU and discuss all babies on the unit.  They also attend the unit several times a week to keep updated about babies' progress that will be eventually discharged home to the care of the team.  The Team will then visit your baby at home until they are ready to be handed over to the care of the health visitor.

It is really important that you wait in for the first visit.  If you have not received a visit before 2.00 pm, or if you need to know our estimated time of arrival, please telephone us on (0161) 276 6246.

If you live outside of the areas listed above, you may be followed up by a different Neonatal Outreach Team or a Community Paediatric Team or a Community Midwife and/or Health Visitor.  Please ask a member of staff for further information before you leave NICU.  If you have already left NICU please telephone the above number to enquire which team you have been discharged to.
